3rd Feb 2009 - My 29th Birthday
It really took me a while to accept that I have turned 29th.
I have to admit that I am fear of getting old
but I know that is a fact that everybody has to come around.

Well, instead of being worried about getting old, I think I should
look at what I have now and be content about it.

I hope that I would have a wonderful whole year.
I could do something that I want and accomplish something
that helps boosting up my confidence.

Happy Birthday to me!

My lovely family threw me a birthday party last weekend and I was totally spoiled with the delicious food, yummy liquor and wonderful presents. Have I ever told you how much I love and appreciate them? I really thank god for giving me John and also his wonderful family. I am blessed to be part of them.

I got distracted...

I was working on my mom sweater for the past 2 weeks and thing went pretty smooth. Very quickly that I finished the back piece of the sweater. The lace pattern of that sweater is very much similar to the Pomatamus sock pattern. It took me while to follow the chart, but after the 2nd repetition, I already have the pattern familiarized in my head.

After I finished the back piece of the sweater, I totally got distracted and wanted to start on another project badly. So I put my mom's sweater aside, and cast on a new project for my laptop. I made a laptop cover! hehe! Well, I think I just wanna do something new, small, fast and interesting! So a combination of intarsia and felted project is something that can shoot up my adrenaline level!

I bought two skein of 100% peruvian wool and used up some of the left over pink yarn in my yarn stash. I finished this laptop cover in 2 days and I threw them into the washing machine and let it did the job.

Since most felted items would shrink up to 25-30%, so I knitted the cover like 3-4" larger. But you know what, I should have knitted another inch for the height. This felting process showed that the item shrank vertically more than horizontally. The cover is now 1" shorter than I want and I have to think of a way to fix that. Well, I will definitely use it when I have to carry the laptop somewhere but deep inside my heart, I know I will make another antarsia felted cover in the future which has the best fit to my laptop. I will knit it an inch narrower but an inch longer! Also, I will use a size smaller of needle to knit the last few row of ribbing! I bet that will fit my laptop fine!

Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock Yarn
I hear so much about Lorna's Laces yarn and I had my hands on them many many times too but I never get to the point to purchase any of them simply because of their high price. This year birthday, I spoiled myself with two skein gorgeous Lorna's Laces shepherd Sock yarn, in the color Amy's Vintage Office. Its colorway falls in grey, grey purple, dark blue, light turquoise.

I have no idea yet which pattern that I am going to knit this beautiful yarn with but I will spend some times looking up nice sock patterns in Ravelry. Seems like there are always more yarn more nice patterns but too little time.

How do you keep your yarn, dearie knitters? I have a big plastic container which I pour all my yarn in for the past two years but lately, I have separated those wool yarn and cotton yarn. I keep all my cotton yarn in pretty hard board boxes. I bought two sweet photo storage boxes from Michaels with very low price during the sales. They are perfect to store more than 10 balls of cotton yarn. Also, I keep nice gift boxes which are still in good shape. I think they are good for yarn storage.

I don't think I have told you how evil those moths were. You cannot imagine what kind of damages they have done to my yarn! Gosh!!! Those little bastards love woool and I realize that they only chew up my wool yarn. I mean badly CHEWED and DESTROYED! There are more than 8 balls of nice wool yarn are ruined. They are eaten into pieces *sob sob*. It did not hurt that much for those cheap wool yarn but badly, there were few balls of Rowan are infested. My heart is bleeding...

Now, I have all my wool yarns nicely put in the big container. I put a natural moth repelling sachet in it to keep the moths away from my yarn stash. This natural remedy contains lavender, rosemary, mint, thyme, ginseng, cloves and lemon. I really don't wish to see any moth anymore! Devilry monster!
Quick Peek of my Craftroom
I started moving things into my craftroom a week after the wood floor was done. I am very excited about this craftroom as I can finally store my yarn, books, CDs and other precious collections nicely.

There are few pieces of furniture that I need to add in the room, like a nice fabric armchair or recliner, a big rug and also some shelves for my yarn storage. To be honest, I want a nice white transparent lacey curtain eventhough I already have a window blind. I bet it takes time to add in more stuff to this room to transform it to THE CRAFTROOM that I really really love!

John and I definitely did some fantastic jobs on the wall painting, wood flooring and also the floor molding. I don't mean to take MOST of the credits, but I paid like 150% effort and patient in the painting. You know how careless men could be, I have to redo some touch up for the wall and also the molding therefore they turn out to be near to perfection! Of course, I truly want to thank my hubby for helping me in making this such pretty room.

Also, I have to thank Andy for taking home some FREE nice furnitures which I really can make use of them.

Those are all the knitting books and magazines that I have collected so far. Can you see the pretty big vase on the table? It is a Christmas present from Rosanne 2 years ago. I am going to put some nice flowers or YARN in it. The light lilac case? Yeah, it is a make up case that Gloria got me for my last year birthday. The case color entirely matches with the wall color. Now you probably are jealous about me having such wonderful sista in laws. Well, they are really nice to me. I love them!

A pair of crystal like door knobs that I bought from HomeDepot for the wardrobe. I will slowly move all my clothes and shoes into this room as I think my bedroom wardrobe is not going to be big enough to store all my belongings.

Photobucket
This is a beautiful and incredible craft desk that Diana got me for Christmas 2 years ago. Yup! Another sweet sister in law that I have. I think this desk is not made to store needles but painting brushes or pens. Well, it does do a good job in keeping my knitting needles in the right place. Do you see all the Addi I got there?!~ Woo... I love my Addi!
The copper pineapple thingy with ribbon was came with the Christmas gift that Gloria got me last year. I felt so reluctant to throw it away therefore I keep it and use it to decorate this craft desk. The pronunciation of pineapple in cantonese is WONG LAI = 黄梨, it means good fortune comes your way! I will keep my good fortune definitely!!!

Photobucket
Another corner of the craftroom, a photo frame with some lovely pictures of me and my family. I need to get more photo frames and also print out more pictures so I can have pictures all over my craftroom.

Safe Game Zone for Kids
Games are really a big part for most of the kids' lives nowadays. Even my hubby, he indulges himself very much in game at least two hours everyday. Honestly, I try my best to make him get away from his PC game but I bet the saying is right, it is hard to teach an old dog new trick.
When I have kids, I will definitely be very strict with their game options and habits. Firstly, I have to make sure that they are focus and responsible on their school work. The results say it all, if they are not academically on track, then they do not deserve to play any game. Also, I will make sure that they play the appropriate games. There are too many violent or pornographic games around which parents definitely need to filter out.

Talking about safe games for kids, there is a kids zone at MEGAbrands.com which is a safe game zone for kids. I heard about this site several times as my friend suggested some online games some times ago. I played some online games before and I think they are amazingly exciting and fun.

I personally like the Dragons Krystal Warrior pretty much. The graphic is alright and the game itself is not too hard to handle. I am never a big gamer but a simple game like this is simply entertaining. To make sure your kids are playing the save appropriate games, you can log in to the MEGA Brands Kids Zone.

Apple Pie... watery

It was like 9pm and we all were craving for an apple pie. I looked up some apple pie recipe online and decided that I was gonna make one! I grabbed my car key real quick and went to the nearby Kroger to get the pie crust.

The recipe I used was from Pillsburry. It is easy to follow. I hate peeling and cutting the apple but I don't think I have a choice. 45 minutes baking in the oven and ta da, it was done!!!

It smell very good and it looked good too... but... when I cut it, it was way too watery inside. Aiks... what did I do wrong? I totally followed the recipe. I went online and try to look for the reason! Alright... the problem was... the APPLES that I used. I think the apples that I used release too much water. Aiks...

Well, the pie crust was perfectly delicious. The baked apple was actually tasty as well, but just too watery. Next time, I will use granny-smith apples then! Lesson learnt!
Dental Implant
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root replacement made of titanium and shaped like a screw. The dental implant procedure involves 2 main stages separated by a minimum of 3 months healing time. First stage, which is the Dental implant surgery where the implants are placed into the jaw bone. Second stage, the Implant restoration . This process in which a crown is built on top of the dental implants. Both procedures are very common, and not too complicated.

If you want to know more about the dental implant, you should go to dental implant guide.com. This website describes all the dental implant procedure and actually anything that has to do with dental implants. This guide includes all the information you could possibly need for your next visit to the dentist regarding dental implants. The guide was written with the patient - in mind! That's why It uses "easy to understand English" and not the "sophisticated dentist's language"!

Save Energy!
I wonder, How Much Energy Does a regular household use every month? I only have two person in my household and most of the time we try to use the energy wisely so we don't have to have a heart attack when the bill comes.

When John is at home, the TV is definitely on. I am not a big TV fans over all, therefore the TV is in rest mode when John is at work. I don't know how much energy that will actually save up but I try. Also, I only wash dishes or clothes when I have a full load. I will hand wash the dishes if there are just few. Anyway, that is not a big fuss for me since I grow up at Malaysia and a dish washer is not common back home.

During summer, I will try not to turn on the air conditioner before 3 or 4 afternoon. I hate summer heat but I always be aware of the energy use. One thing, I can't sleep in hot temperature at night. That is why, I rather be suffer over the heat in the afternoon, than having my whole body sweats all over at night.

Celebration Month!
I turned 29 on 3rd February and I told hubby that I want to celebrate my birthday for the whole February since this is my LAST twenties... time flies... I still remember how badly I wanted to be 10 years old when I was 8, and also how much fun I had when I was 18 - 22... and now, I am 29...

ANYWAY!!! I had a great birthday because I got many nice and warm birthday wishes from my family and friends. You gotta thank Facebook very much because all my buddies back home manage to leave me some lovely birthday wishes. Also, million thanks for those who sms me like, 6 or 7am in the morning hahahaha~

John got me a gift card from Woolie ewe and that is very thoughtful of him. I went to Woolie ewe yesterday and bought myself 2 skein of sock yarn. I will tell more about this in the coming post. Before I went to Woolie Ewe, I tried out a Taiwan Cafe which is located nearby my house.

I ordered a bowl of noodle 麻辣面, pan fried dumpling 窝贴, and salted fried chicken 盐酥鸡. I knew for sure I couldn't finish everything but I wanted to try them. I would say only the noodle is alright, the dumpling and chicken are kinda disappointing. Most likely I will go back for their noodles but not the appetizers.

Since it is my birthday celebration month, I will try to spoil myself more than ever. Oh ya, I just ordered some magazine from Phildar, some yarns from littleknits. I want more yarn! =)

Perfume Collection
I used to buy many different perfumes when I was working back home but lately, I do not spend any money in purchasing perfume in the past year because I do not go out that often. If you have a chance to look at my perfume collection, it is not hard for you to figure out that I like fruit and flower fragrant. Something light but not too strong basically.

Lately, I like everything about rose. I would like to get a rose flower fragrant perfume but honestly, I haven't found any particular one that I really fall for. Some are either too strong or the smells are totally off. I am still looking for the right one.

Valentine's day is coming, I bet many guys will buy perfume for their girl friends. What perfumes do you like? Maybe it is good that you hint your boyfriend about the perfume that you like so you will get something you really want!
Cashsoft

This sweater meant to be a Christmas gift for my MIL but I did not finish it in time. Finally, it was last week and I gave it to my MIL on SuperBowl day. haha~

About 6 and half balls of yarn was used. I used RY Cashsoft 4ply for this project and I have to say this yarn is sooooo soft and comfy. The pattern of the sweater is from Phildar magazine, HIVER 06/07, 10 Placement De Torsades. There are numbers of members in Ravelry had knitted this sweater and they all look awesome. I bought some seashell square beads from Michael and I sew them up around the yoke. I love the final touch of those beads on the sweater and my MIL likes this sweater too. She put it on last night when we were over and the sweater fits her very well.

I am currently working on a Japanese magazine long sleeves top for my mom. My mom picked this pattern when I was in Malaysia last September. I am now half way at the back piece. I will take some pictures and show everybody here in the next post.
